Falls Service
WEL has introduced a special Falls Service in partnership with the ESCC, South East Coast Ambulance Service and PCT, to help individuals who have fallen but are who are unhurt who have suffered only minor injuries. The service is designed to help those prone to falling retain their independence by providing them with short term support and assistance at home immediately following a fall.
The team aim to reach individuals within 30 minutes and are equipped with the latest Mangar Elk lifting cushion. Once the faller's condition has been assessed, the individual can be lifted and provided with immediate aftercare.
Members of the team are fully trained as Community Responders and are also equipped with a portable defibrillator.
The service offers recipients:
- improved health and well being
- promotion preventative measures to reduce the risk of further falls
And offers a range of benefit for health care providers:
- support for ambulance teams by providing assistance with lifting
- enables ambulance crews to leave as soon as possible so that they can respond to other calls
- reduced ambulance attendances, transfers to casualty and subsequent admissions to hospital
- measurable costs savings throughout the health and social care economy
Local Area Agreement
The Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a three-year agreement between East Sussex County Council on behalf of service providers and central government. It runs from 1 April 2006 until 31 March 2009. The LAA identifies priorities for improvement in East Sussex and how these priorities will be tackled in partnership with other organisations in the county.
